ARCA buzz in Paste Magazine!

Ooh, here’s another fun one! Paste Magazine did a roundup of the most anticipated fantasy books coming in 2023, and guess who’s there? ARCA, by yours truly!

Couldn’t agree with this more:

“Too many people slept on Scorpica, the first installment in G.R. McAllister’s sweeping Five Queendoms series, an epic tale about a matriarchal society in which a decade passes without a single daughter being born. Time to fix your life with sequel Arca, which deals with the political fallout, as multiple powerful women scheme and maneuver against each other.”

ARCA featured at PopSugar!

New year, new book, always an exciting time! And I’m thrilled to see ARCA popping up on lists of books to watch for in 2023. It’s not out until March 7, but you can of course pre-order it now, and the buzz is building…

Here’s a fun example! ARCA is one of “13 New Fantasy Books to Make Your Year Extra Magical” at PopSugar.

Check out what they have to say about ARCA: “It's ‘Game of Thrones’ without dragons but with a matriarchal society packed with power plays and epic battles.More here.

More to come…

The Arctic Fury deeply discounted in December!

Yes, I do tend to focus on my new releases around here, but of course, all my other books are also out there in the world! I’m particularly tickled that right around this time of year, when chilly weather descends, The Arctic Fury sees a big spike in readership. (In particular, it looks great against the backdrop of newly fallen snow on Instagram!)

So this is particularly well-timed news: The Arctic Fury is deeply discounted in e-book form during the month of December, and as of this writing, you can pick it up for less than $3 on several fave e-book platforms.

have you seen the cover of ARCA?

The paperback of SCORPICA is coming out shortly, but of course in publishing we’re always living in both the present and the future — so don’t forget that ARCA, second book in the Five Queendoms series, comes out this spring! Right now the release date is March 7 (but you know how release dates are.)

If you haven’t seen the absolutely breathtaking cover of ARCA, rush to check it out now! The official reveal was part of this Saga Press roundup post at Tor.com. Soooo pretty.

(And did I mention you can pre-order? You can pre-order anywhere you get your books, including my longtime fave One More Page.)

a little SCORPICA-related roundup!

Remember when I was having trouble blogging because there was just So Much? Three weeks out from SCORPICA’s publication, there’s nearly as much happening, but it’s a different kind of much! I’ve been neglecting the blog, my apologies.

Here’s a little bit of the latest muchness:

  • I recommended a Fierce Woman Character To Celebrate (who also happens to be a real woman from history) as part of this roundup at The Young Folks

  • I wrote about the particular challenges of writing birth scenes for Writer Unboxed

  • I really enjoyed my event at One More Page last night, and you can catch the replay of me reading from SCORPICA, fielding questions, and gesturing a lot in huge sleeves on YouTube

More to come soon, including an opportunity to name a character in my next book!

Canadian readers, want a discount on SCORPICA?

Too much going on! It feels excessive to post more than once a day, but I don’t know how long this deal will last, so I’m posting now — Indigo has a 30% pre-order sale going on select “Most Anticipated” titles, and guess who’s included? That’s right! So if you’re in Canada and you want your copy of Scorpica, hurry up and pre-order here.

while you're waiting for more Yellowjackets...

Obviously I’m not the only one who fell head-over-heels for Showtime’s “Yellowjackets,” a moody, creepy-tense dual-timeline thriller about a girls’ soccer team marooned in the wilderness and driven to extremes to survive. Now that the first season is over, what can fans do to fill the vacuum? Well, Paste Magazine has some great suggestions of books to read while you wait, and you can imagine my delight to see THE ARCTIC FURY on the list! And Lacy Baugher Milas’s summary is on point:

A dual timeline thriller about 13 women who are tragically stranded in a remote wilderness and the fallout that ensues when not all of them return? Is this Yellowjackets: The Novel? No, it’s Greer Macallister’s The Arctic Fury, a thrilling piece of historical fiction that follows a group of extraordinary women sent in search of the lost Franklin Expedition.
